How to eat fruits for diabetic patients

Fruits are both loved and feared by diabetics. Fruits are rich in essential nutrients such as pectin, vitamins, inorganic salts and dietary fiber, in addition to organic acids, aromatic substances, and have good organoleptic properties, which are very useful for improving appetite, promoting digestion, and enriching food diversity, thus making them very popular. However, due to the sugar content in fruits, diabetic patients have to stay away from them. Li Wei, Department of Nephrology and Endocrinology, Nantong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinically, some diabetic patients think that eating fruit raises their blood sugar and refuse to eat it; others classify fruit as a nutritional product for fitness and eat it without concern. Both of these practices are not scientific enough. So how to eat fruit scientifically to not only affect blood sugar and can – full mouth, but also can ingest the nutrients in the fruit? The key to the problem is to get a good glucose control situation to determine whether you should eat fruit and eat fruit time, variety and quantity.     ⒈ whether diabetic patients can eat fruit: whether diabetic patients are suitable to eat fruit, need to be determined according to blood sugar control situation.     If the blood sugar is not well controlled, it is not recommended to eat fruits for patients with severe diabetes whose fasting blood sugar is above 8 mol/L. If the blood sugar can be controlled below 8 mol/L and stabilized for a period of time, and the urine sugar is negative, you can eat fruits in moderation. Of course, before and after eating fruits, we should pay attention to self-monitoring blood sugar or urine sugar, and adjust the quantity and variety of fruits according to the changes of blood sugar or urine sugar.     The time to eat fruit: You should eat fruit between two meals or about 1 hour before going to bed at night. Because at this time, the time between the two meals is more than 2 hours, the sugar in the blood has dropped to a low value, supplemented by a small amount of fruit has little effect on blood sugar.     When you are hungry before meal, you can eat some fruits when you cannot add other food immediately.     After the increase of physical activity, you can eat some fruits in moderation.      3. Selection of fruit varieties
Fruits with high sugar content include sugar cane, banana, cinnamon, lychee; followed by grapes, cherries, loquat, prunes, apples, pineapples; while watermelon and melon have low sugar content, only 4-5%. Diabetic patients should try to choose to eat fruits with low sugar content. If you eat more fruits at one time, you should reduce the main food appropriately, but you should not completely replace the main food with fruits, to ensure that carbohydrates provide 50%-60% of the total daily calories.
