Is tuberculous meningitis contagious?

Tuberculous meningitis is a form of tuberculosis of the central nervous system. Whether tuberculous meningitis is contagious or not needs to be analyzed based on whether it is combined with tuberculosis. If the disease is simple, it is usually not contagious; if it is combined with pulmonary tuberculosis, it is contagious. Meningitis is often caused by the bloodstream or invasion of Mycobacterium tuberculosis into the human subarachnoid space. However, if the patient has tuberculosis in combination, the bacillus can spread through droplets, and when the patient laughs, coughs, or talks, microscopic droplets of the bacillus can be ejected from the patient’s body and enter other normal people, leading to infection. After suffering from tuberculous meningitis, patients may experience nausea, vomiting and other uncomfortable symptoms, as well as signs of meningeal irritation, such as neck stiffness and headache. At this time, patients should immediately go to the hospital and be treated with anti-tuberculosis drugs such as isoniazid and rifampin to relieve symptoms. If the symptoms are severe, chemotherapy or surgery will be required.
