Statins are widely used, but blood levels of these drugs are influenced by diet, especially grapefruit (including grapefruit juice). Although some drug manufacturers claim that certain products are less affected, it is better to be careful, because the variety of drugs and drug names make it difficult to be clear. Grapefruit can increase the blood concentration of some statins several times, or even hundreds of times, and therefore can induce statin side effects, especially rhabdomyolysis. Therefore, do not eat grapefruit seeds or drink grapefruit juice while using statins, and do not use statins for several days after eating grapefruit.
