How to treat malignant tumors of the tonsils

Tonsil malignant tumor treatment methods include chemotherapy and surgery, radiotherapy and so on. 1. Chemotherapy: commonly used drugs include cisplatin and paclitaxel, which are used to kill tumor cells. They are only used in palliative treatment for advanced tonsil cancer or recurrence after surgery to prolong the survival period. 2. Surgical treatment: commonly used surgical methods include enlarged excision of tonsil tumor, transoral laser surgery, robotic surgery to remove tonsil cancer, cervical lymph node dissection, and repair and reconstruction of oropharyngeal defects. (1) Enlarged excision of tonsil tumor: the aim is to remove the tumor as completely as possible. (2) Transoral laser surgery: resection of tonsil malignant tumors with limited scope from the mouth, preserving the oropharyngeal function as much as possible. (3) Robotic surgery to remove tonsil cancer: the tumor can be removed precisely and the disadvantage of limited manual dexterity in the oral cavity can be avoided. (4) Cervical lymph node dissection: sweep the lymph nodes in the neck to avoid tumor metastatic spread in the whole body. (5) Oropharyngeal defect repair and reconstruction: for patients with large postoperative defects to repair and rebuild the oropharyngeal function to the maximum extent. 3. For some sarcomas, malignant lymphomas and undifferentiated carcinomas which are sensitive to radiation, it is appropriate to use radiation therapy, meanwhile, cooperate with chemotherapy and immunotherapy. For early tonsil cancer, tonsillectomy is feasible, and for those with neck lymph node metastasis, neck dissection should be performed at the same time, and radiotherapy and chemotherapy should be used after operation. If malignant tumor of tonsil is diagnosed, it is recommended to consult the doctor in time and use standard medicine and treatment under the doctor’s guidance.
