In vitro survival time of rabies virus

Rabies virus has a very short survival time in vitro, surviving in air for only about 2 minutes. Rabies virus, shaped like a bullet, belongs to the family of bullet-like viruses, and is an anaerobic virus. Generally, it can be inactivated by heating at 56℃ for 1 hour, 60℃ for 10-15 minutes or 100℃ for 2 minutes; it can be inactivated by heating at 110℃ for 1 minute under high pressure; however, the virus can survive for several years at -70℃ or lyophilized and stored in 0-4℃ environment. In addition, rabies virus is sensitive to ultraviolet light, Neosporin, benzalkonium bromide, iodine, potassium permanganate, alcohol, and formaldehyde. If outdoor clothing is accidentally contaminated with dog saliva, the rabies virus can be inactivated by exposing the contaminated clothing to sunlight for 1 hour.
