Fire in the heart, liver, spleen and stomach can lead to increased eye discharge, but increased eye discharge is not always caused by fire. According to TCM, heat accumulation in the body can lead to increased eye discharge, and different nature of discharge indicates different nature and location of fire, which can guide the treatment. For example, yellowish-white eye discharge can be caused by heat accumulation in the heart and lungs, or heat accumulation in the spleen and stomach; watery eye discharge can be caused by heat accumulation in the lungs and stomach, or watery eye discharge can be caused by heat accumulation in the liver and lung yin deficiency. However, increased eye discharge is not always caused by fire. Western medicine believes that increased eye discharge is usually caused by inflammatory diseases of the eye, such as mydriasis, conjunctivitis, keratitis, dacryocystitis, trachoma, etc., which require anti-inflammatory treatment. When eye discharge increases, first rule out local inflammation of the eye, and then consider what Chinese medicine refers to as fire to avoid delaying the condition.
