Why are you alert to persistent pain after shoulder dislocation in the elderly?

Recently, we have treated several cases of persistent shoulder pain after shoulder dislocation in elderly people. Their common feature was that they had a fall injury that caused anterior dislocation of the shoulder joint, and they had shoulder pain after the manual repositioning, and the pain was gradually aggravated, especially at night, and they felt weakness in lifting the shoulder joint. In fact, in the specialty of shoulder and elbow surgery, it is a common knowledge concept that shoulder dislocation is often combined with rotator cuff injury in elderly patients. However, the continuous admission of such patients reminds me to remind patients with this problem: if you have a similar situation, it is easy to confirm the diagnosis by promptly seeing a shoulder and elbow surgeon and, if necessary, having an MRI. Trauma-induced rotator cuff injuries can be repaired well and can significantly shorten the course of the disease; once treatment is delayed, resulting in retraction of the injured rotator cuff, surgical treatment becomes more difficult and less effective.
