From April 15 to April 21, 2013, it is the 19th National Cancer Awareness Week in China, and the theme of this year is “Protect the Environment, Stay Away from Cancer”. Huang Wei, deputy director of the provincial health department, said, “There are about 250,000 new cancer cases and 150,000 deaths in our province every year, and the incidence of tumors is trending younger. According to the 2012 Tumor Incidence Trend Report, our province is one of the provinces with high incidence of tumors, and death from malignant tumors accounts for more than 20% of the total mortality, ranking first among various causes of death. The incidence of tumors in our province from high to low are: male, lung cancer, stomach cancer, liver cancer, esophageal cancer; female, stomach cancer, lung cancer, esophageal cancer, liver cancer, breast cancer, cervical cancer. Yang Qiang, Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Henan Provincial People’s Hospital 1. In 2003, WHO pointed out that at least 1/3 of tumors can be prevented, which is what we in TCM call “the upper work to cure the untreated disease”. 1) Tumors are caused by some identified or unidentified factors. Among the identified factors, the most important one is smoking. Quit smoking! Quitting smoking can prevent lung cancer, esophageal cancer, oral and pharyngeal cancer, laryngeal cancer, bladder cancer, pancreatic cancer, etc. (2) Reasonable lifestyle habits proposed by WHO can prevent tumors: reduce meat; avoid animal fat; increase crude fiber; increase fresh fruits and vegetables; avoid obesity. (can effectively reduce rectal cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, esophageal cancer, stomach cancer, prostate cancer, endometrial cancer and other tumors) plus a sentence: less salt, pickled food and processed food can effectively reduce stomach cancer, colorectal cancer and nasopharyngeal cancer. (3) Obesity: In 2003, the New England Journal published a prospective study on the relationship between overweight, obesity and cancer mortality among adults in the United States. From 1982 onwards, more than 900,000 normal people who did not suffer from cancer were followed up for 16 years, resulting in 57,145 cases of death from cancer in this population. The analysis showed that mortality rates were 52% (men) and 62% (women) higher in people with a body mass index (body weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared, kg/m2) above 40. (What is the concept of BMI 40? 1.70m, weight 115.6kg) Except for lung cancer, almost all common cancers are related to obesity. Lose weight! 4) “Precancerous lesion”: it is not cancer in itself, but is prone to cancer on top of it. At present, they are listed as precancerous lesions: cystic hyperplasia of breast, chronic atrophic gastritis, gastric ulcer, familial multiple colorectal polyps, oral leukoplakia, chronic migratory hepatitis, cervical erosion, long-term unhealed ulcer and scar, etc. Some infections are associated with cancer: hepatitis B virus (HBV) and primary liver cancer; human papillomavirus (HPV) and cervical cancer, anal cancer; Helicobacter pylori (HP) and gastric cancer, gastric lymphoma; Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and lymphoma, nasopharyngeal cancer; AIDS (HIV) and Kaposi’s sarcoma, lymphoma; schistosomiasis and bladder cancer; liver fluke and mixed bile duct cancer, etc. Chinese medicine can make a big difference: chronic atrophic gastritis (precancerous lesions of gastric cancer), more than half of the pathological examinations improved when taking Zhenqi Fuzheng Punch. Zhenqi Fuzheng Punch has antioxidant effect, excessive oxidation is one of the mechanisms of tumor formation and aging. More than one-third of tumors can be effectively treated, and cancer is not an incurable disease. In Japan, the 5-year survival rate for microscopic gastric cancer detected early and confined to the mucosal layer of the stomach is nearly 100%; for stage I breast cancer, the 5-year survival rate is 92.5%; for cervical cancer in situ and stage I cervical cancer, the 5-year survival rate for surgery + radiotherapy is 99.1%; for early esophageal cancer, the 5-year survival rate for surgery is 90.3%; even for liver cancer (people call it the “king of cancers”), the 5-year survival rate for surgery is 99.1%. “the king of cancers”), those with early detection and radical surgical resection have a 5-year survival rate of 61.3% after surgery …… In fact, more than one-third of tumors can be effectively treated. Therefore, tumor has gradually changed from an incurable disease to a chronic disease. Think about our common chronic diseases, hypertension, diabetes, coronary heart disease, chronic bronchitis, etc., don’t they all require lifelong treatment? 2) How to do it? Early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment are necessary. Raise the knowledge of tumor prevention and treatment of the whole nation. For example, the Institute of Liver Cancer of Fudan University reported that 52% of liver cancer patients admitted at an early stage were detected by medical checkups. For those who have diseases or viruses related to “precancerous lesions”, annual checkups should be enhanced. For example, for HBV patients, liver function, hepatitis B 2.5 and tumor markers (alpha-fetoprotein AFP) are checked every six months. For postmenopausal women, CA-125 should be measured first, and if it is greater than 2 times the normal value (70u/ml), ultrasound should be performed; for high-risk groups, i.e. positive family history, BRCA (breast cancer susceptibility gene) mutation carriers, CA-125 and transvaginal ultrasound should be checked for 6 consecutive months; if ultrasound shows an adnexal mass, premenopausal If the lump is <8cm in diameter before menopause, follow up in 1 to 3 months, while if it is before menarche or after menopause, the possibility of cancer is great and must be taken seriously! Be more alert to the early symptoms of tumors. For example, in the early stage of gastric cancer, most of them have vague pain and discomfort in the middle and upper abdomen, nausea and loss of appetite, which are often difficult to distinguish from chronic gastritis and gastric ulcer. Therefore, for those who are over 35 years old and whose symptoms are not relieved continuously, the indications for gastroscopy should be relaxed.
