Nearsightedness requires frequent eyeglasses, otherwise vision fluctuations occur with decreased distance vision, squinting movements when gazing at distant objects, visual fatigue, aggravated myopia, and elevated prescriptions. Myopia is also prone to exotropia or exotropia, so optical corrections must be made by wearing frame glasses or corneal contact lenses to improve distance vision and relieve eye fatigue. Only mild myopia with clear vision when looking at a distant target can be treated without glasses. For moderate to high myopia, in addition to glasses, regular review is needed to check the fundus to rule out retinal degeneration, fissures and retinal detachment.
