Sudden onset of coughing at night with more intense coughing is commonly due to the following reasons: 1. Heart disorders need to be excluded, such as acute cardiac insufficiency, which mostly manifests as sudden onset of coughing at night. The patient cannot lie down and prefers a sitting position. The symptoms may be slightly relieved after the lower limbs are lowered, along with wheezing, shortness of breath, profuse sweating and cyanosis of the lips. With a clear past history of heart disease, symptomatic treatment such as cardiac strengthening, diuretic, and wheezing can be given. 2. Allergic cough, the symptoms of such patients mostly occur in the evening and early morning, mostly triggered by allergic factors, and mostly manifest as dry cough, no sputum or a small amount of white sputum. It is recommended that a hospital visit be made to check lung function, allergen tests, blood tests and, if necessary, excitation tests or diastolic tests to clarify the diagnosis. Aminophylline, β2 agonists and glucocorticoids can be given to relieve the symptoms after the diagnosis is confirmed.
