Zhang Bin, Department of General Surgery, Henan Cancer Hospital Reflux esophagitis is an inflammatory lesion of esophageal mucosa caused by frequent reflux of gastric or duodenal contents into the esophagus due to the dysfunction of the lower esophageal sphincter. The main symptoms are 1. heartburn, acid reflux, 2. pain behind the sternum, 3. difficulty in swallowing. Causes: 1. disruption of the anti-reflux barrier, most importantly the lower esophageal sphincter. 2. dysfunction of the esophageal acid profile, esophageal emptying and saliva neutralization. 3. impairment of the anti-reflux barrier of the esophageal mucosa. 4. gastroduodenal dysfunction. 5. other diseases (hernia, vomiting, etc.). Surgical encounters are mainly due to altered anatomy after surgical resection.      Therefore the use of a modified surgical approach to reduce the occurrence of reflux esophagitis is essential to improve the quality of life of patients.
