Facial manifestations of pituitary tumors

Facial manifestations of pituitary tumors are usually seen in growth hormone adenomas and adrenocorticotropic forms of adenomas. In the case of prolactin adenomas or thyroid hormone adenomas or non-functioning adenomas, there are basically no specific facial changes. In the case of growth hormone adenomas, the facial changes are relatively typical and easily distinguishable, such as thickening and enlargement of the nose, thickening and enlargement of the chin, hair growth like a giant or a wild man, and thickening and enlargement of the terminal phalanges of the extremities. Pituitary tumors of the adrenocorticotropic hormone type also have a series of typical symptoms, called full-moon face, in which the face is very full and obese, but the body is thin, so it is important to check for endocrine factors and make a diagnosis.
