The timing of surgery for children with amblyopia with strabismus is generally recommended as soon as possible after the amblyopia has been corrected. If amblyopia with strabismus is detected early, surgery is usually recommended before the age of 6-7 years. However, not all children with amblyopia with strabismus require surgery, and the specific treatment needs to be analyzed by the clinician according to the child’s specific symptoms to develop a targeted treatment plan, but whatever the treatment plan, it needs to be started as soon as possible. When children with amblyopia with strabismus are detected clinically, they can be covered and fitted with glasses after the age of 2. Covering the healthy eye and forcing the amblyopic eye to perform daily activities to exercise the visual ability of the affected eye; wearing glasses can correct the visual imaging and stimulate the normal development of the visual system. Children with amblyopia need to wear glasses all the time to help form normal visual habits, and after the age of 3 children can begin to be treated for amblyopia with instruments operated by specialized doctors to awaken visual cells with special light. After amblyopia is treated and vision returns to normal levels, clinical recommendations are generally for strabismus surgery within 6 months to correct eye position and improve appearance, while mild strabismus can usually be corrected with glasses without surgical treatment. Amblyopia with strabismus in children may cause lifelong strabismus if left untreated, forming wrong visual habits and long-term monocular vision. Therefore, it is more important to treat children with amblyopia with strabismus as early as possible, and the treatment effect will be better. For children with low amblyopia with large strabismus and no chance of binocular vision, such as congenital internal strabismus and congenital exotropia, after trial amblyopia treatment, if amblyopia treatment is difficult, in order to promote binocular vision development as much as possible, strabismus can be corrected surgically first, and then amblyopia can be treated after surgery.
