What is dyspnoea?

Dyspnoea is a condition in which the patient experiences breathing discomfort of varying intensity and nature, such as lack of air, breathlessness, laboured breathing and choking, with or without laboured breathing, such as open-mouth breathing, nasal flapping and respiratory muscle-assisted respiratory movements. The patient’s mental state, living environment, level of education, psychological factors and the nature of the disease have a definite influence on the degree of dyspnoea.
