How soon can you start walking with a broken ankle

Ankle fractures can usually start walking after 4-6 weeks, but different degrees of injury, the patient’s age, and other factors may affect the walking time, so a comprehensive decision should be made. Ankle fractures are common in clinical practice, usually mainly in the outer ankle. If the injury is severe, there may be double fractures of the inner and outer ankle or simultaneous fractures of the inner, outer and posterior ankle, and in severe cases, fracture dislocation may occur. Patients should seek medical treatment promptly after the injury, and surgery may be required if necessary. If the fracture is mild, you can start walking in 4-6 weeks with a cast. If the fracture is severe, surgery may be required and the patient may be able to walk on the ground 1 week after surgery, but usually with the assistance of crutches or a walker. In addition, patients with ankle fractures should pay attention to diet and nutrition during the recovery period and avoid exertion to facilitate recovery.
