What should I be aware of with hyperthyroidism medication?

Hyperthyroidism, referred to as hyperthyroidism, is a thyrotoxicosis caused by excessive production of thyroid hormones by the thyroid gland itself. Since hyperthyroidism can cause damage to various organs such as the heart, liver and kidneys and induce various complications, it can be very damaging to the body, so reasonable treatment should be used as soon as hyperthyroidism is diagnosed. Currently, there are three main treatments for hyperthyroidism: medical treatment, surgery and radioisotope treatment. However, the disadvantage is that the course of treatment is long, about 1.5 to 2 years or more, and the medication should not be interrupted arbitrarily. The treatment of hyperthyroidism is clinically divided into three phases: Control phase: When hyperthyroidism treatment is started, 6 to 9 tablets of tabazol or propylthioxypyrimethamine (propyl for short) are taken daily, and the dosage can be increased to 9 to 20 tablets daily for severe cases. Dose reduction period: After hyperthyroidism is controlled, the dosage should be reduced in time, once every 2-4 weeks, each time to 1/3-1/4 of the original dosage, and the whole reduction period takes about 2-4 months. Maintenance period: When the medication is reduced to 1~2 tablets of Tabazol or Propyl daily and thyroid function is maintained in the normal range, it is still necessary to insist on taking the medication, and the whole course of treatment will take 1~2 years. The relapse rate of hyperthyroidism is about 50%, which occurs one or two years after stopping the medication. Most of the relapses are related to patients stopping the medication or changing other methods during the treatment. The most common reasons are insufficient amount of medication, insufficient course of treatment, stopping medication when the condition improves, and taking medication again when the condition worsens, which can make hyperthyroidism difficult to heal for a long time and easy to relapse. Some triggers can also lead to recurrence of hyperthyroidism, such as infection, trauma, psychophysiological factors and dietary discomfort. Therefore, it is important to adhere to the medication for hyperthyroidism, to review the medication regularly, to adjust the medication in time, and not to change or stop the medication in a hurry.
