Adults with umbilical infection can have their umbilical fossa flushed with a hydrogen peroxide solution. The bubbles produced during the flushing process will remove dirt and necrotic tissue. Furacilin can also be applied. Furacilin has a wide range of antibacterial activity, against both gram-positive and negative bacteria. Drainage with furacilin gauze can have a bactericidal effect and prevent the umbilical opening from closing, thus playing a role in unobstructed drainage.
