How to use the correct topical medication for treating skin diseases?

When you visit a dermatologist, the doctor will usually prescribe some topical medications. There are many types of topical medications, including powders, solutions, creams, gels, ointments, pastes, lotions and sprays, wet wipes, etc. The methods of use vary, and it is necessary for dermatologists to master the most basic methods of using topical medications. For the sake of memory, we simply divide topical medications into three categories: drops, ointments, and wipes. How to use the wet wipes properly? For vesicles and oozing skin, a wet wipe is applied to the surface, usually 6-8 layers of medical gauze, soaked in salve and slightly wrung out, and laid flat on the rash for 20 minutes 3 times a day. Note that the wet wipes should not be covered with film, etc., but should be allowed to evaporate naturally. The effect of heat dissipation, astringency and dryness is achieved. The dressing also cleanses skin exudates, scabs and flakes and helps maintain skin drainage from infected areas. This method can be used during the treatment of acute inflammation, erosions and ulcers. How do I apply drops and ointments? You can apply the salve to the affected area with a cotton swab, finger or palm of your hand, being careful not to apply too much, just like a face cream, in a thin layer. Some patients think that the thicker the ointment is applied, the better the effect, in fact, this is not only a waste of medicine, sometimes on the condition is counterproductive. If the doctor prescribes both medicine and ointment for a certain place, then usually the medicine is applied first and then the ointment is applied after the medicine dries. Some patients may ask, “Should I wash with water before each application? Unless the rash is stained with dust and needs to be cleaned with water, do not intentionally wash it with water. Many rashes can get worse after frequent water washing. If local erythema, itching and other symptoms appear after topical application of the medicine, it may be a local allergy and should be stopped immediately and a doctor should be consulted.
