Currently, when you think of plastic surgery, many people think of the “Korean Wave”, but do you know the contribution of China to the world of plastic surgery? One of these flaps was invented by us Chinese and is respected as the “Chinese flap” by the international plastic surgery community. Thirty years ago, Yang Guofan, director of plastic surgery at the Shenyang Military General Hospital, invented the forearm flap free grafting technique. This technology created a historical precedent, and since then the technique of free flap grafting with anastomosis of blood vessels has developed like a spring, and dozens of flaps have been excavated, greatly enriching the repair and reconstruction technology. This technique is now widely used in the repair of head and facial defects and penile reconstruction. The Plastic Surgery Department of Shenyang Military General Hospital also applied this technique to perform ear reconstruction with a free forearm flap for a burned patient.
