Is laryngoscopy uncomfortable?

Laryngoscopy generally does not cause severe pain reactions and can be tolerated by normal people, so do not have too much psychological burden, but some people may experience discomfort due to the use of equipment and individual pain tolerance. In the case of general laryngoscopy, such as indirect laryngoscopy, rigid laryngoscopy or fiberoptic laryngoscopy, usually before doing laryngoscopy, the examining doctor will carry out anesthesia on the surface of the throat and oral mucosa, and will use the form of spray, so there is generally no pain, but we cannot exclude that some patients are born with sensitive pain reaction and will have a slight pain. Reactions of nausea and vomiting may also occur during laryngoscopy. If direct laryngoscopy is used, it is usually performed under general anesthesia, and patients do not feel any pain during the examination. Postoperative pain in the throat may occur due to mucosal abrasions in the throat caused during the examination, which can be properly gargled with mouthwash to maintain oral hygiene. If the mucosal abrasion is more serious, antibiotics can be applied for a short time to relieve it. It is better to eat less or not to eat before the examination to avoid choking and coughing. It is necessary to improve the routine examination of hepatitis B, hepatitis C, syphilis and AIDS in advance; when doing laryngoscopy, there may be nausea in the throat, and it is necessary to spray surface anesthetics to the throat, which should be used with caution for those who are allergic to anesthetics; try not to drink and eat within 2 hours after doing laryngoscopy to avoid choking and coughing due to the effect of anesthesia.
