A cough with sputum is not necessarily a novel pneumonia. If a patient is in an infected area or has a history of epidemiologic exposure and has a cough with sputum, the possibility of novel coronavirus infection cannot be ruled out. Novel pneumonia is an acute respiratory infection caused by a novel coronavirus infection. It is a widespread disease that is transmitted mainly by respiratory droplets, but can also be transmitted by contact, and is more severe in the elderly and those with underlying diseases. The incubation period of novel coronavirus infection is relatively short, generally 3-7 days, with the longest period not exceeding 14 days.
