What are the common causes of chronic cough

  Cough is one of our most common clinical symptoms. Frequent and violent coughing not only affects breathing, heart, and sleep, but can also cause a serious psychological burden. Here, we present the common causes of chronic cough.  I. What is chronic cough According to a summary of the literature, chronic cough is defined as: cough for at least 3 weeks; cough is now the only symptom; not accompanied by hemoptysis; denial of cough-related chronic respiratory disease, such as chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis, etc.; difficulty in confirming the diagnosis on a recent chest X-ray; and sputum or no sputum.  2. Cough due to medication after taking angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors.  5. Psychogenic cough.  A detailed history and understanding of the nature of the cough, concomitant symptoms, medication use, and history of previous illness are essential for a correct diagnosis.
