Doctors are so busy treating others that they often neglect their own health. Doctors are exercising their vocation to save lives, but unexpectedly beaten by patients and killed by patients are commonplace. Survey results show that: more than 60% of doctors are at risk of cardiovascular disease, twice as many as the general population; 98% of doctors face psychological stress at work, 80% of which comes from the doctor-patient relationship; more than 60% of doctors feel more tired than ever, and 17.4% of them have had suicidal thoughts. Our physician team is facing unprecedented pressure from the work and life environment: long working hours, high labor intensity, stressful life, and concern for patients’ health far more than their own …… For this reason, a cohort study on the health status of doctors in the Guangzhou area’s tertiary hospitals was officially launched, and Geng Qingshan, deputy director of the Guangdong Provincial Health Department, said that in the future, it will also The health status survey of other populations will be launched to provide rigorous and scientific survey and research data for the future formulation of relevant health policies. The physical health of doctors is worrying The physical and mental health of the physician team is a valuable asset to society, and creating a good working environment and management model for them is actually not only a common responsibility of hospital managers, but also an important basis for establishing a harmonious doctor-patient relationship. However, while treating other people, the health condition of doctors is worrying. In 2011 and 2012, the Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital conducted physical examinations of 9,175 medical and nursing staff, and found that more than 60% of medical workers had more than one cardiovascular risk factor, and there was a certain aggregation of risk factors, with the proportion of two or three risk factors combined being 20.7% and 8.0%, respectively; the number of combined risk factors increased significantly with age. The number of combined risk factors increased significantly with age. A survey of 4032 physicians in 386 hospitals nationwide by Professor Hu Dayi, Director of the Department of Cardiology at the People’s Hospital of Peking University, found that more than a quarter of physicians were at risk for cardiovascular disease, and nearly half of male physicians had hypertension, twice as high as the healthy population, with the average 10-year risk of coronary heart disease reaching 4% for male cardiologists and 2% for female physicians, and the relative risk for both men and women over the age of 40 was much higher than that of the general population. The relative risk of developing coronary heart disease is much higher than that of the general population. However, this is only the tip of the iceberg, medical staff not only in physical health has a great potential, with the tension between doctors and patients, the psychological problems of medical staff are becoming increasingly serious, anxiety, depression and other different psychological problems also plagued medical staff, thus also become a cause of tension between doctors and patients. Nowadays, there are five major characteristics of the medical staff: firstly, high divorce rate; secondly, high rate of sleeping pills; thirdly, high rate of smoking and drinking; fourthly, high rate of hypertension, cancer and peptic ulcer; fifthly, high rate of suicide. In 2011, the Guangzhou Health Department published a survey report on the mental health of health care workers: 63.03% of health care workers feel more tired than before, 61.89% feel that their social status has been reduced, 50.38% feel less interested in other people or things, and more than 20% feel that their work is very stressful and work tension is high. And 17.4% of healthcare workers have had suicidal thoughts, and 13.2% of them often feel depressed and unhappy. The results of a network survey for doctors also show that 39% of doctors feel very tired after work, 53% of doctors can hardly take annual leave, 58% of doctors rarely participate in sports, 98% of doctors feel psychological pressure at work, 80% of which comes from the doctor-patient relationship. The first large-scale doctor health survey study was launched To this end, the Guangdong branch of the Chinese Medical Association will lead a cohort study on the health status of doctors in the Guangzhou area’s tertiary hospitals, and intends to spend five years to study the health status of 10,000 clinicians in 19 tertiary general hospitals in Guangzhou, including physical health, mental health and social adaptability health. According to Lin Shuguang, president of the Guangdong branch of the Chinese Medical Association, the survey will identify risk factors affecting the health status of doctors in the Guangzhou area’s tertiary hospitals, conduct risk assessments of the relevant factors, and use them to initially develop health interventions and health management strategies applicable to doctors in the Guangzhou area’s tertiary hospitals. Geng Qingshan, deputy director of the Guangdong Provincial Health Department, said that based on the results of the study, a health care system for doctors will be proposed, preliminary standards for the allocation of human resources for doctors in various clinical disciplines will be established, as well as an electronic health management profile of doctors’ health status. It is expected that preliminary results will be available by the end of this year, and a basic database can be established in 2014 to prepare for the establishment of long-term follow-up.” This cohort study will give us good experience in studying the health status of other populations, such as journalists, workers, farmers and many others, and we will conduct studies on the health status of other populations in the future.” Geng Qingshan said.
