Dry eyes after myopia? You may need to differentiate the causes.

After myopia surgery, some people feel dry eyes in the morning? Some people feel dry in the afternoon? Why? Let’s hear my advice. Many patients who have undergone surgery feel dry eyes after surgery, especially in the morning when they get up, blinking and taking a break. The nerves within the corneal tissue are cut during laser surgery, and tear secretion is subsequently reduced. This reduction in secretion is mainly a reduction in nighttime secretion, which is medically known as basal secretion, so there are symptoms of dry eyes when you wake up in the morning. As the nerve tissue in the cornea is repaired, the basic tear secretion increases and the dry eye symptoms are slowly relieved, which takes about six months to a year. It does take a little longer, but in fact, post-operative dry eye symptoms are very mild and patients feel the symptoms themselves for the first two to three months or so. If you feel heavy dry eyes in the afternoon and evening after surgery, it may be due to excessive use of the eyes during the day, not the surgery. There are many causes of dry eyes such as long-term use of electronic devices, oral antidepressants, excessive smoking and drinking, poor sleep quality, etc. Do not confuse these with dry eyes caused by surgery. In conclusion, dry eye caused by laser surgery is indeed common, but it is recoverable and not serious, so you do not have to worry about it.
