Can it cause sepsis?

It will, but it is very unlikely. Most patients will not cause sepsis if they are actively treated and maintain immunity.
A small number of acute attacks of cholecystitis, serious grossness of the gallbladder wall, such as delayed treatment, or more serious purulent cholecystitis and gallbladder perforation can cause inflammation of the liver, bile ducts and surrounding peritoneum, and pathogenic bacteria can easily enter the blood circulation through the bile duct when the infection is aggravated, causing sepsis, which can cause functional damage to multiple organs.
