Some chemotherapy drugs can cause nausea and vomiting, as well as dry heaves. It often occurs during chemotherapy, just after chemotherapy, or a few hours or days after chemotherapy is finished. You will gradually feel better after the chemotherapy is stopped. There are medicines available that can prevent nausea and vomiting from occurring, called antiemetic or anti-nausea medicines. You will need to use these medicines 1 hour before chemotherapy and continue to use them for several days after chemotherapy. The duration of use depends largely on the type of chemotherapy drug and how well you respond. If one class of anti-nausea medication does not work for you, your doctor will give other classes of anti-nausea medications, or you may need to take more than one anti-nausea medication to be effective. You should actively consult your doctor on how to control chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting. Treatment: 1. Prevent nausea. One way to stop vomiting is to try to prevent nausea. Try to consume light, easy-to-digest foods and beverages, e.g., soy milk and tofu. 2, arrange the best time to eat, some patients feel more comfortable eating less before chemotherapy. Some patients feel that it is better to receive chemotherapy on an empty stomach (no food or drink for 2-3 hours before chemotherapy). Eat and drink at least 1 hour after chemotherapy. 3. You will feel better if you eat smaller meals, 5-6 smaller or quicker meals during the day. Do not drink a lot of water before or during meals, and do not lie down immediately after meals. 4.Choose warm or cool diets (rather than hot or cold). Stay away from diets with strong odors, such as coffee, fish, onions, garlic and fried foods. 6. Try ice pops or juice ice cubes. Try sugar-free mint cubes or sour candies, but it is best not to use sour candies when you have mouth or throat problems. 8, relaxation before chemotherapy, if relaxation before chemotherapy will reduce nausea, meditation, deep breathing, reverie will make you feel more comfortable. You can also read, listen to music or knit. 9.If you feel like vomiting, take slow deep breaths or fresh air. You can also talk to friends or family, listen to music, or watch movies or TV to distract yourself. 10. Inform your doctor or nurse, who will give you medication to stop vomiting during and after chemotherapy. Follow the doctor’s instructions. If the medication has no effect, inform the doctor. Other methods may also be consulted. If you vomit for more than a day or after drinking water, inform your doctor.
