There are many clinical acupuncture points for treating cough. In Chinese medicine, there is a saying that “where the meridians are located, the main treatment is located”, so the first point is the hand Taiyin Lung meridian. The first hand Taiyin Lung meridian point is the Shaoshang point, which is located 0.1 cm from the root of the thumb. The second acupuncture point is at the interstitial space of the fish, which is often referred to as the large interstitial space of the fish. This point is very effective in treating common coughs. Then, further up the Hand Taiyin Lung meridian, there is the Taiyuan point, which is often found in a depression on the lateral side of the transverse wrist line and is very effective in treating deficiency and cold coughs. When coughing often with phlegm, take the points on the other meridian. At the midpoint of the line between the outer knee and the outer ankle, 1.5 cm outward, there is the Fenglong point, which is the first major point for resolving dampness and dispelling phlegm, and it is very effective for coughs with phlegm.
