Patients with definite gastric ulcers, with or without complications, are recommended to have a repeat electrogastroscopy at the end of 6-8 weeks of anti-ulcer therapy to see how the gastric ulcer is healing and whether it has healed. In addition, in patients with gastric ulcers caused by H. pylori infection, a review of H. pylori is also required to determine whether H. pylori has been eradicated. The preferred method of review is a carbon 13 or carbon 14 breath test, which should be performed at least 4 weeks after the end of HP eradication therapy, otherwise there is a risk of false negatives. Because of the potential risk of malignancy in patients with gastric ulcers, it is important to pay attention to this and to review the electronic gastroscopy at the end of gastric ulcer treatment to clarify whether the ulcer has completely healed.
