Strabismus in children should not be ignored

Amblyopia is a common childhood eye disease, and there are many causes of amblyopia, most commonly refractive errors (hyperopia, myopia, astigmatism) and strabismus that are not corrected in a timely and reasonable manner, and if these children are detected early and treated early and reasonably, most of them can be completely restored to normal. The prevention of amblyopia lies in the early detection, too late to cure. As we all know, the newborn baby’s eye is small and short, visual function is not fully developed, is unable to see things, with the continuous stimulation of external object form and light stimulation, slowly have vision, gradually formed binocular simultaneous vision, fusion vision and stereo vision, generally in about 5 weeks of age basically reached the vision of adults, so before the age of 5 is the main stage of children’s vision development. If this period is not well developed, it will produce strabismus, not only low vision, and binocular vision function is not perfect, these children can not accurately identify the depth of the near and far, grown-ups can not engage in precision instruments, instruments, navigation, aviation, astronautics and other work, in driving, sports, etc. will be disturbed. According to a survey, 20% of people who have car accidents lack stereo vision, which causes irreparable damage to the country and individuals. In addition, some strabismus, if left untreated, can also affect the physical development of children, such as facial asymmetry, crooked neck, etc. So, how can we know early if a child has strabismus or amblyopia? Children themselves do not know whether their eyesight is good or bad, so parents need to pay attention to this and take their children for regular eye examinations. Once you notice signs of poor vision in your child, such as squinting, frowning, tilting the head, preferring to see things at close range, or complaining of poor vision, you should go to the hospital as soon as possible, and you should not delay the diagnosis and treatment if you have “crossed eyes”. The best time to treat children with strabismus is between the ages of 4 and 7, just before school age, but if you are over 12 years old, the treatment will not be ideal. The first thing you need to do is to have your eyes examined in detail by a professional ophthalmologist and to have a standardized dilated eye exam, i.e., strong atropine diluent drops for more than 3 days, and after a scientific eye exam, prescription lenses as needed, and then systematic strabismus treatment. After the pupil dilatation, there will be fear of light, blurred vision of near objects and other discomfort, so the winter and summer holidays are a better period.
