What should I do when I have a seizure?

First, patients with grand mal seizures should be supported to lie down on the ground to prevent falls or bruises, and collars and belts should be loosened to facilitate the patient’s breathing. If the patient has a prolonged seizure, send him/her to the nearest hospital as soon as possible. Turn the patient’s head to the side during a seizure to allow secretions to escape. Some patients may talk nonsense, walk around aimlessly, cry, or even hurt others during or after a seizure. The best thing to do is to have the patient treated by a specialist quickly and not to tie the patient up and abuse him/her.
