What department should I go to for a cough?

Cough is a common symptom in respiratory medicine, and there are very many causes of cough. If the cough is in an adult, you should register with respiratory medicine. Respiratory medicine is the first department to see a patient with a cough. First, the patient will have a chest X-ray or CT of the lungs and blood tests. Common respiratory diseases that cause cough include pneumonia, tuberculosis, bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis, and patients with lung cancer may also present with cough symptoms. If respiratory diseases are ruled out, other causes of cough should be sought. The first step is to rule out cardiac diseases. For patients with cardiogenic cough, we should follow up with medical history to see if the patient has coronary heart disease, hypertension, or congenital heart disease. The patient should then undergo targeted cardiac tests, such as electrocardiogram, cardiac ultrasound, and troponin, and be directed to other departments. If the cough is caused by a pediatric patient, it is recommended that the patient be seen by a pediatrician.
