Umbilical cord wrapping around the neck

The umbilical cord is very common in obstetric clinics, accounting for about 20%-25% of all deliveries. Can I still have a normal delivery? Today, we will share our knowledge about cord bypass. Why does the umbilical cord bypass happen? There are 3 general reasons: 1. The umbilical cord is too long, or the fetus is relatively small, it will become entangled; 2. There is too much amniotic fluid and the fetus has a lot of space to move around in the uterus, resulting in entanglement; 3. The baby moves around too much in the uterus and the umbilical cord will also become entangled. Will the baby be in danger if the umbilical cord is wrapped around the neck? The umbilical cord has compensatory stretching, winding loosely has little effect on the fetus, winding over urgent multiple turns can affect the fetal blood supply and risk causing fetal heart changes, fetal hypoxia, asphyxia and even fetal death in utero. In fact, the main factor that affects the prognosis of the fetus is not the number of wrapped weeks, but the length of the umbilical cord left after removing the wrapped neck. This means that if the mother is only wrapped for 1 week but the cord is relatively short, this can still result in a poor outcome. However, if the number of weeks of wrapping is too tight, or if the fetus moves too much through the cord, causing a true knot in the cord, this can lead to an adverse outcome. Can I measure the length of the umbilical cord? What should I do if the cord is wrapped around my neck? At this stage, it is not possible to measure the length of the umbilical cord with various auxiliary examination techniques, so there is no need to panic if the cord is wrapped around during pregnancy. The monitoring of cord entanglement is the same as normal pregnancy monitoring. 1, regular labor and delivery, learn to count fetal movements, fetal heart rate changes can be observed through fetal heart monitoring; 2, try to sleep on the left side, so that the blood supply to the umbilical cord is rich; 3, the umbilical cord is not an indication for cesarean delivery. Strengthen the monitoring during labor and decide the mode of delivery according to the progress of labor and the impact on the fetus.
