How long does it take to recover from a transverse process fracture?

It takes 6 weeks for a lumbar transverse process fracture to heal and 2-3 months for symptoms to disappear completely. A lumbar transverse process fracture is usually caused by a sudden strong contraction of the muscles attached to the transverse process, resulting in an avulsion fracture of the transverse process of the lumbar spine, which often occurs in porters or sportsmen. Clinical manifestations include significant pain on the injured side of the lumbar region, tilting of the spine to the injured side and not daring to stand upright, significant restriction of lumbar spine movement, muscle spasm and local pressure pain at the injury site. It can also be complicated by retroperitoneal hematoma, compression of the abdominal plexus and cause intestinal distension, lumbar spine X-ray may show lumbar spine transverse process fracture and displacement. Treatment includes bed rest, local closed injection, and bed rest for 2 weeks before leaving the bed, but the patient should wear a lumbar brace. The fracture heals completely 6 weeks after the injury, but there will be symptoms of lumbar pain. 2-3 months after the injury, the pain symptoms will disappear completely and the lumbar spine activities can return to normal. During this period, patients need to rest and strengthen nutrition appropriately. At the same time, proper functional exercises are performed to prevent complications such as venous thrombosis of the lower limbs. In terms of diet, eating more vegetables, fruits and calcium-rich foods can help the recovery of the fracture.
