How long does it take to remove a cast from a small finger fracture?

If a small finger fracture is fixed in a cast by manipulation, the time to remove the cast is about 3-6 weeks, depending on the specific fracture healing and the age of the patient. In a normal adult, a small finger fracture can achieve clinical healing in about 4 weeks and the cast can be removed. In children, the bone will be stable in about 3 weeks and the cast can be removed. However, in elderly people with osteoporosis, the bone grows more slowly and the cast can be removed only in about 6 weeks. The criteria for removal of the cast must be reviewed in the hospital and the cast can be removed only if there is a blurred fracture line or bone scab growth.
