Dampness and toxin invade the body and stay in the liver, damaging the liver body, and the liver body is not used, which can lead to abnormal drainage, obstruction of blood flow in the liver, and imbalance of the distribution of Qi, blood and fluid, which can lead to phlegm condensation and blood stagnation, which can lead to phlegm and stasis together (liver-generated phlegm and stasis). Phlegm and stasis are the products of the failure of the blood and fluid to return to the right place, and because the blood and fluid are of the same origin, phlegm and stasis are also of the same origin. Long-term disease injures the qi, dampness injures the spleen, and at the stage of liver cirrhosis, qi deficiency and blood astringency, qi deficiency and fluid stoppage can also lead to the concomitant production of phlegm and stasis. Phlegm and stasis interact with each other, and phlegm blocks the vascular channels, preventing blood flow and generating stasis, and stasis blocks the vascular channels, resulting in loss of distribution of fluids and phlegm, resulting in mutual generation of phlegm and stasis. Tang Rongchuan’s “Blood evidence” says: “phlegm can also be transformed into stasis” and “blood accumulation for a long time can also be transformed into phlegm”; Zhu Danxi’s “Danxi Xinfa” says: “phlegm mixed with blood stasis, thus becoming a cyst”; Zhang Jiebin’s “Jing Yue Quanshu” says: “Yuan Yuan and blood stasis can also be transformed into phlegm. Jing Yue Quan Shu” “the loss of vital energy, the spirit of dissipation, no gas in the water, the essence of blood defeat, are transformed into phlegm ear! This fruit phlegm also, fruit essence blood also, there is no essence blood and other so-called phlegm yeah?”. This is the fruit of phlegm and the fruit of essence and blood. The above understanding illustrates the theory that phlegm and stasis have the same origin, phlegm and stasis are born together, and phlegm and stasis are born with each other. As phlegm and stasis increase day by day, the disease continues to develop, involving the kidney element, the deficiency of the positive element, phlegm and stasis become more and more prevalent, so that phlegm and stasis are intertwined, staying in the ligament, sticking together and difficult to resolve, the qi and blood do not support, the liver body loses nourishment and gradually withers and hardens, liver failure, and even phlegm and stasis become cancer. The interconnection of phlegm and stasis indicates critical condition and difficult to cure. The basic rule of treatment for liver cirrhosis is to eliminate phlegm and resolve phlegm.
