Parents often come to our hospital with complaints that their children have been coughing for several months, with recurrent attacks, mainly at night, causing the whole family to have trouble sleeping, and they have no energy for work and study during the day, and they have been seeking medical advice everywhere, and have taken a lot of western medicine, Chinese medicine and prescriptions, and intravenous rehydration has become a daily routine. After a detailed consultation, physical examination and corresponding laboratory tests and films, we performed a bronchodilator test and gave him/her a preliminary diagnosis and sent him/her back to take medicine for a few days. We usually know that wheezing is the typical clinical manifestation of asthma, but in fact cough is the most common symptom of asthma; cough variant asthma is a special type of asthma, which can occur at any age without gender difference; cough is the only or main symptom, mainly dry cough, mostly without sputum, or a little foamy sputum; some patients have chest tightness or dyspnea, but no typical wheezing; cough is persistent or The cough is persistent or recurrent, often triggered by upper respiratory tract infection, cold air inhalation, strenuous exercise, etc., and aggravated late at night or early in the morning; physical examination and chest radiograph are normal; bronchial excitation test or diastolic test is often positive; 24-hour peak expiratory flow variability rate is increased; treatment with wheezing drugs is effective. Due to the atypical clinical symptoms, the diagnosis is often missed or misdiagnosed. Because of the failure to get timely diagnosis and effective treatment, the condition does not improve, and most patients can develop into typical asthma with wheezing after a period of time. The essence of cough variant asthma is the same as typical asthma, but there are significant differences; the diagnosis of cough variant asthma relies on an experienced specialist to make, and other diseases causing chronic cough need to be excluded. Its treatment is the same as typical asthma, with inhaled glucocorticoids, and bronchodilation and symptomatic treatment alone are not appropriate.
