Prostate ultrasound precautions

The prostate gland is located in a deep position around the male urethra, so it is not easy to see during the examination because of its deep position. It is usually necessary to drink more water to fill up the bladder, which is equivalent to opening a window in a position that is not clear to see, and can make the prostate gland show more clearly. The above is a transabdominal ultrasound, but there is also an ultrasound method that does not require drinking water to fill the bladder, namely transrectal prostate ultrasound, which is a clearer view of the prostate and makes it easier to find microscopic lesions. Therefore, when malignant disease of the prostate is suspected, it is best to look at the prostate through the anus. It is important to note that PSA testing, or prostate cancer specific antigen, requires a blood draw. It is more recommended to have the PSA drawn prior to the prostate exam, as it will prevent the PSA results from being affected due to squeezing of the prostate during transrectal prostate ultrasound.
