MDT (Multidisciplinary Comprehensive Treatment Team) is a new treatment model that has been promoted in recent years. Once tumor patients get sick, they will check the internet to learn about the treatment measures of their disease and related famous doctors. However, patients usually do not know what kind of treatment is suitable for their diseases because of the lack of medical knowledge. In urban hospitals, there are more disciplines involved in tumor treatment, such as surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, intervention, radiofrequency ablation, cryotherapy and so on. Facing so many treatment methods, patients are at a loss of what to do. Due to the limitation of their knowledge, many doctors in various departments involved in tumor treatment in hospitals only treat patients from their own knowledge, but sometimes the treating doctors themselves are not very clear whether this method is the best one for the patient. MDT is a way to bring together doctors from many departments in a hospital to discuss a patient, to bring together the latest knowledge of each department, to combine the patient’s disease stage, the family’s financial situation, and the patient’s physical condition and mental capacity, and to weigh the pros and cons to come up with the best plan for the patient. The best plan will be produced for the patient, so that the patient can get the most benefit. At present, there are 6 MDT teams for stomach cancer, intestinal cancer, breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, soft tissue tumor and biliary tract cancer in the Cancer Hospital, which are participated by specialists from various disciplines such as surgery, internal medicine, pathology, imaging and radiotherapy. This work has been carried out for more than 3 years and has benefited hundreds of patients. MDT is also a mode of continuing education where doctors can gain new knowledge from the presentations of doctors from other departments and complement each other’s strengths to update their knowledge. Not only do young doctors gain a lot of knowledge that cannot be learned from books, but even senior doctors can gain new knowledge from many other departments or fields.
