Hypertension is a clinical syndrome in which systolic and/or diastolic blood pressure is elevated. The determination of hypertension should be made by obtaining the mean of multiple blood pressure readings. The current method of measurement, using WHO regulations, requires that a diagnosis of hypertension in a patient must be determined by the average of 4-6 readings obtained on two different days of measurement, unless the first elevation is such that immediate medication is necessary.
