Advice for patients with stage 2 hypertension

Blood pressure range in stage 2 hypertension Systolic blood pressure is between 160-179 mmHg Diastolic blood pressure is between 100-109 mmHg It is recommended that stage 2 hypertension be managed reasonably effectively through lifestyle changes and intervention with anti-hypertensive drugs. For people with stage 2 hypertension and/or multiple risk factors, target organ damage or clinical disorders, initial treatment often requires the application of two small doses of antihypertensive drugs. The combination of two antihypertensive drugs with different mechanisms of action not only increases the antihypertensive effect, but also reduces the adverse effects and the degree of adverse effects. Risk factors, target organ damage and coexisting clinical conditions should be assessed and risk stratified, and all reversible cardiovascular risk factors such as smoking, obesity, abnormal lipoproteinemia or diabetes mellitus should be intervened to appropriately manage coexisting clinical conditions. If medication discontinuation or adjustment is required it should be done under medical supervision. Along with pharmacological treatment of stage 2 hypertension, one needs to change one’s poor lifestyle and eliminate behaviors and habits that are detrimental to mental and physical health. In addition, general physical activity can increase energy expenditure, lower blood pressure, and improve glucose metabolism; therefore, a moderate amount of physical activity can be performed daily, with a moderate level of activity being appropriate. Specific medication is subject to clinician’s diagnosis.
