The Cattell-Braasch Approach in Retroperitoneal Tumor Surgery

The Cattell-Braasch maneuver is a technique proposed by Cattell and Braasch in 1960 to reveal the third and fourth segments of the duodenum. It is now commonly used for pancreaticoduodenectomy in combination with large portal vein-superior mesenteric vein resection anastomosis, and also for surgical visualization of retroperitoneal tumors. In recent years, our center has applied this technique in the surgery of retroperitoneal tumor, which has improved the safety of the surgery and helped to completely resect the tumor and reduce the local recurrence rate, and the summarized article was recently published in the Chinese Journal of Practical Surgery, which is reproduced below Li Chengpeng, Department of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, Peking University Cancer Hospital
