Novel coronavirus pneumonia cough is not necessarily severe. Although fever, malaise, and dry cough are typical symptoms of novel coronavirus pneumonia, some people present with only a low-grade fever and mild malaise without pneumonic manifestations. The presence of cough symptoms may also vary from person to person; some people may have no cough symptoms or a mild cough, while others may have a violent cough, and severe patients may develop dyspnea and progress to acute respiratory distress syndrome in severe cases. For patients with cough, antiviral symptomatic treatment may be given and antibiotics may be applied in the presence of bacterial infection.
