What is the importance of health screening?

Your car is the most common means of transportation, and your car is regularly serviced, but how often is your body serviced, which is more important than your car? I am a gastroenterologist, and I had the honor to attend the training course for medical examiners in Beijing. I have a better understanding of the importance of health checkups.    As a doctor, I often see this situation in my daily work: “If this patient had come to the clinic earlier, the treatment result could have been completely different”. Specifically, the diagnosis and treatment of malignant tumor should be “three early”, i.e. early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment. The earlier the diagnosis of malignant tumor, the better the treatment effect. Unfortunately, malignant tumors also have the characteristic of “three 90%”, that is: 90% of early stage cancers are asymptomatic; 90% of early stage cancers are detected by professional screening; 90% of cancers with obvious symptoms belong to middle and late stage. The top eight malignant tumors with the highest incidence rate are: lung cancer, stomach cancer, liver cancer, esophageal cancer, colon cancer, pancreatic cancer, breast cancer, and cervical cancer. Among them, five malignant tumors of the digestive system are accounted for. Since 90% of early cancers are asymptomatic, no one will go to the hospital for examination without symptoms. Health checkups are very important, as some tumors may be detected before symptoms appear, gaining valuable time for further treatment. Many people still have the misconception that medical checkups are unnecessary and even a waste of money. In fact, hundreds of dollars may be spent on a meal that is usually spent. If not detected early spend more money may not help. Besides, the significance of health checkups is not only to detect early tumors, but also to detect hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, coronary heart disease, overweight, metabolic syndrome, sub-health status, poor lifestyle, etc., which are all beneficial. It is better to take charge of your own health issues.
