Give your “memory” a regular checkup!

The Memory Clinic, also known as the Elderly Memory Disorders Clinic, was established specifically to address memory problems in the elderly, and can help seniors detect memory decline early and intervene in advance to prevent Alzheimer’s disease. Generally speaking, there are three conditions that will be diagnosed when memory deterioration occurs. The first is benign amnesia, which is related to the aging of the human body and the degeneration of the brain. Most people experience this as they get older and it is usually not a big problem. However, if someone in the family has suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, it should not be taken seriously, and it is best to go to the memory clinic every six months or a year for a relevant examination and follow-up. The second type is early cognitive dysfunction and should be seen at the Memory Clinic every 3 months for early treatment to prevent further deterioration. The third type is only Alzheimer’s disease, which mostly occurs in people over 65 years old. Currently, there are about 1.8 million new cases each year in China, and it is a major obstacle to the healthy life of the elderly. These elderly people must under the guidance of the doctor monthly follow-up, receive comprehensive drug treatment. As the onset of Alzheimer’s disease is relatively long and early symptoms are easily overlooked, many of the elderly who come to the Memory Clinic in the clinic are already in a more serious condition. Therefore, elderly people over the age of 60 should have their memory checked if they suddenly feel dull, forgetful and slow in a short period of time; family members should also bring them to the Memory Clinic if they find that the elderly have a strange personality, love to lose their temper, and their behavior is very different from usual. In addition, individuals who are not over 60 years of age and have the symptoms mentioned above are also encouraged to visit a memory clinic.
