What are the symptoms and discomfort after tympanic membrane perforation?

In cases of trauma-induced tympanic membrane perforation, there are likely to be no local symptoms due to loss of consciousness or emotional stress. When the patient is awake or sedated, he or she may feel a rumbling in the ear or experience symptoms such as ear pain, tinnitus and stuffiness, with occasional small amounts of blood flowing from the external ear canal. If the patient has damage to the inner ear, he or she may experience vertigo, nausea and hearing loss. On ear examination, blood in the external ear canal and irregular tympanic membrane perforations are seen. Eardrum perforation is a common clinical manifestation of chronic suppurative otitis media, causing long-term hearing impairment and occasional purulent discharge from the ear. In the case of tympanic membrane perforation caused by severe cranial trauma, there may be bloody fluid flowing out of the ear. 1. Hearing loss occurs. This is mostly manifested by the need to listen to other people’s conversations sideways, watching TV or listening to MP3 with a loud sound but not feeling anything, or listening to other people’s speech but often needing them to repeat it twice to hear it clearly, etc. 2. Ear stuffiness and obstruction. After tympanic membrane perforation, the air pressure inside and outside the tympanic membrane will change, and the air pressure caused by the external ear canal will have an impact on the damaged part of the tympanic membrane, making the patient feel stuffy and heavy in the ear, and some people will also have symptoms of ear pain and tinnitus. 3. Vertigo and nausea. From time to time, pus or a small amount of blood may flow out of the ear canal. The bleeding is not obvious at the initial stage of tympanic membrane perforation. Only through endoscopic examination can a small amount of blood be found at the edge of the perforation, and blood or blood crusts are sometimes visible in the external ear canal. When the tympanic membrane is perforated and sewage and bacteria enter, it can cause infection in the middle ear.
