How soon can you walk after calf fracture surgery

Patients should not walk with weight in the early stage after calf fracture surgery, but usually can walk with weight appropriately around 4-6 weeks after surgery. The fracture of the lower leg usually refers to the fracture of the tibiofibula. After surgical treatment, even though the bone is supported and fixed with plates and screws, patients are still advised not to walk with weight in the early stage, but to perform non-weight-bearing activities of the knee and ankle joints under the guidance of the doctor. In 6-8 weeks after surgery, the fracture end has a certain degree of scab growth and the bone is gradually stabilized, so you can consider crutches or walkers and gradually walk with weight. 3 months or so after the fracture end reaches good bone healing, you can slowly get rid of crutches or walkers to practice walking, and generally 4-6 months patients can gradually resume normal walking. After being discharged from the hospital, patients need to go to the orthopedic department for regular medication changes and film review to help understand the post-operative bone recovery, as well as functional rehabilitation training under the guidance of the doctor to avoid prolonged standing and walking.
