Introduction to Facial Surgery

  Eyelid Facelift Corrects and removes sagging upper eyelids and puffy bags and crow’s feet by removing excess eye fat, skin and muscle. The procedure requires local anesthesia.  Surgery time: 1-3 hours.  Hospitalization or not: Usually as an outpatient, no hospitalization is required.  Side effects: Transient discomfort, tightness in the eyelids, swelling, bruising, transient dryness and burning sensation, itchy sensation in the eyes. Frequent tearing and the eyes are sensitive to light for the first few weeks after surgery.  Recovery time: You can read 2-3 days after surgery; you can work 7-10 days later; you can wear invisible eyes at least two weeks later; you can engage in strenuous sports and alcohol consumption after 3 weeks; it takes about a few weeks for the bruising and swelling to disappear completely.  Results of the surgery: 5 – 10 years, some results may be permanent.  Facelift The surgery removes excess fat and wrinkles through local or general anesthesia, tightens facial muscles, improves sagging face, cheeks and loose neck skin, and reshapes the skin’s firmness. Most people who have a facelift are men and women over the age of 40.  Procedure time: Takes 2 – 3 hours.  Hospitalization or not: Usually as an outpatient, some people may voluntarily request a short hospital stay for observation.  Side effects: Temporary bruising, swelling, numbness, very sensitive skin; a feeling of tightness, drier feeling skin. For men, changes may occur in the area behind the ears where the beard grows.  Recovery time: return to work after 10-14 days; no strenuous exercise after at least two weeks; bruising takes 2-3 weeks to completely resolve; avoid exposure to sunlight for the first few months after surgery.  Results: usually 5-10 years.  Facial Contouring Through local or general anesthesia, special shaping materials are surgically grafted into the face to improve the basic contour and balance of the face, reshape a more three-dimensional chin, make the cheekbones more prominent, and reshape the jawline.  Surgery time: 30 minutes – 2 hours.  Hospitalization or not: Usually as an outpatient, patients are sometimes required to stay in the hospital for one day.  Side effects: Transient discomfort, swelling, bruising, numbness and stiffness.  For a few weeks after surgery, do not open your mouth too wide during the week.  Recovery time: you can work after one week; your appearance returns to normal after 2-4 weeks; it takes at least 6 weeks for your face to withstand shocks and impacts.  Results of the surgery: The results are permanent.  Forehead lift The surgery removes excess tissue and wrinkles from the forehead, lifts gradually sagging eyebrows and removes excess skin from the eyes through local or general anesthesia, resulting in tighter skin on the forehead. A traditional facelift is performed by making an incision from the top of the head (behind the hairline); with an endoscopic procedure, 3-5 small incisions are required. Most people who have a forehead lift are over 40 years old.  Surgery time: 1-2 hours.  Hospitalization or not: Usually as an outpatient, no hospitalization is required.  Side effects: Temporary swelling, numbness, headache and bruising. With a traditional facelift, it may lead to scalp itching and hair loss.  Recovery time: You can return to work after 7-10 days. The recovery time for a traditional facelift is a little faster than for an endoscopic procedure, with strenuous exercise only after a few weeks. It takes 2-3 weeks for the bruises to heal completely. Exposure to the sun should be avoided for the first few months after surgery.  Surgical results: Effective time is usually 5-10 years.
