With the progress of the times and the development of society, a new discipline, DD psychosomatic medicine, which mainly studies the basic laws of human health and disease and prevention methods from the interrelationship between the mind and the body, has come into being. In Chinese traditional medicine, the mind-body related issues have been described as early as in the Nei Jing, and its doctrine of the unity of heaven, earth and man is consistent with the modern mind-body medicine’s argument that human diseases and health are the comprehensive results of the interaction of biological-psychological-social factors and the internal and external environment of the organism. The so-called mind-body related diseases are physical diseases in which psychological factors play an important role. In Chinese medicine, it refers to various internal organs and qi-blood pathologies caused by mental and emotional factors, which belong to the category of “God hurts the form”. Therefore, the treatment of mind-body related diseases should be both physical and spiritual, and the treatment of physical refers to Chinese medicine, acupuncture, massage and other therapies aiming at adjusting the function of internal organs and qi and blood; the treatment of spiritual refers to psychological therapy aiming at regulating mental activities and mind-body harmony. Whether there is a psychological factor in the clinical treatment of Tui Na is an issue that needs to be paid attention to. The author believes that recognizing and analyzing the psychological factors in the process of Tui Na treatment can lead to a more comprehensive, objective and scientific analysis and understanding of Tui Na medicine. At the same time, proper attention and application of psychological techniques in Tui Na treatment can also further improve the efficacy of treatment. The clinical process of Tui Na differs greatly from that of all other disciplines of medicine. The clinical process of an internist is mainly in the prescription of medication; a surgeon is mainly in surgery. The clinical process of a Tui Na doctor has distinctive characteristics: the doctor needs to complete the entire procedure of patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. On the one hand, it is relatively independent; on the other hand, it takes a long time and needs to be repeated several times. This also means that there is a lot of communication and conversation between the tui na practitioner and the patient. As a tui na doctor, one needs and should understand the following aspects: first, to have a comprehensive understanding and grasp of the patient’s condition and to make an accurate diagnosis; second, to determine the appropriate treatment plan; third, to observe the patient’s reaction during and after the treatment; fourth, to understand the recovery of the patient’s condition and its impact in society and family, etc. The patient who receives the treatment needs to experience the various sensations and experiences brought about by the Tui Na treatment and to communicate these sensations and experiences with the doctor. In addition, there is a psychological factor in terms of the role of Tui Na treatment. Tui Na is a treatment method with both biological and psychological properties. In addition to stimulating specific areas and meridian points to produce biological effects, Tui Na therapy involves longer contact and communication between the doctor and the patient. The in-depth communication between the doctor and the patient is more of an emotional and psychological process. The key to play the role of psychology in the process of tui na treatment still lies with the doctor. We believe that in addition to the linguistic proportion and skillfulness that exists between the tui na doctor and the patient, he or she should also pay attention to his or her grooming, respect for the patient’s privacy, etc. In addition, they should pay attention to the patients’ mental symptoms and give them positive and benign hints and psychological guidance in a timely manner. At the same time, one should pay close attention to and understand the patient’s perception of his or her disease, the patient’s willpower, the degree of perception of Tui Na treatment, and the patient’s feelings about Tui Na treatment. The uniqueness of Tui Na treatment determines that the effect of Tui Na treatment includes both biological and psychological effects. It is incomplete to understand the effect of Tui Na treatment by emphasizing its biological effect and ignoring the role of psychological factors. In the clinical research of Tui Na, it is not objective to summarize the therapeutic law of Tui Na only in the biological aspect and exclude the psychological effect. And it is also necessary for us to practice and summarize how to actively exert the psychological effect in Tui Na treatment in clinical practice.
