Breast cancer is a very common malignancy in women, and very few men may also have breast cancer. Breast cancer that is HER-2 positive, which is a condition with excessive amplification, can be considered for treatment with the targeted drug trastuzumab, also known as Herceptin. The price of Herceptin is now generally much lower, and the price of one 440mg is about 7000-8000 RMB, which is more than half of the price a year ago. Generally if HER-2 is strongly positive, i.e. (++), genetic testing may not be required. If it is (+) or (++), further FISH genetic testing is needed to find out if Herceptin can be used. Herceptin can be used in addition to breast cancer treatment in a subset of gastric cancer patients.
