How long can you live after removal of malignant thyroid tumor?

The survival time after removal of thyroid malignant tumor is related to the pathological type and surgical method, which cannot be generalized. Malignant thyroid tumors rank low in malignancy among all malignant tumors. If detected early and treated with standardized treatment, the treatment effect is usually better and does not affect patients’ life expectancy. The survival rate of patients with common papillary thyroid cancer can exceed 90% in 10-20 years after surgery. In case of medullary carcinoma and undifferentiated carcinoma, the prognosis is relatively poor, especially for undifferentiated carcinoma, the treatment effect is poor and the life expectancy is only 3-6 months through the need of radiotherapy for short-term control. In contrast, other differentiated thyroid cancers, even with distant metastases, can have a longer survival after active treatment, such as iodine-131 therapy. In addition, thyroid cancer patients should also pay attention to not eating spicy and stimulating foods after surgery, and should increase the intake of vitamin-rich foods, including fresh vegetables and fruits.
